On January 2, Chery Automobile announced that after evaluation by the Wuhu State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, the transfer price of 51% of Kaiyi Automobile's equity was 2.494 billion yuan. After the transfer was completed, Chery Automobile held 49% of Kaiyi Automobile's equity, Yibin Automobile Industry Development Investment Co., Ltd. held 50.5% of the equity, and Sichuan Yibin Pushi Group Co., Ltd. held 0.5% of the equity. State-owned enterprises under the Yibin Municipal Government and Wuliangye Group became the largest shareholders of Kaiyi Automobile and obtained vehicle production qualifications.

As early as 2003, Wuliangye had a plan to build cars. At that time, Yibin Pushi Group began to accept mold orders from Chongqing Changan and Japanese automakers to produce car exterior molds. Then in 2006, Wuliangye acquired 50% of Xinchen Power's shares and entered the automotive engine field. Three years later, Yibin Pushi Group and Brilliance Jinbei established Brilliance Jinbei Mianyang Branch. Unfortunately, after Wuliangye entered the automotive industry, the auto market declined and the car manufacturing behavior was delayed. The dream was also shattered in 2011 when Brilliance Group acquired Xinchen Power.

Thanks to the state's support for new energy vehicles, in 2015, the Yibin Municipal Government announced the "New Energy Vehicle Production Project", which plans to cover an area of ​​3,000 acres and produce 200,000 new energy electric vehicles annually. Among the companies that master new energy vehicle production technology, Yibin Pushi Group has a seat. In 2017, Wuliangye restarted its car manufacturing plan. However, the original plan to cooperate with Qoros Auto ended with Qoros Auto being sold to Baoneng Group.

Now that they have acquired Kaiyi and obtained the qualification for vehicle production, they have finally achieved their goal. For Chery, the continuous losses of Qoros and Kaiyi forced Chery to find a way to get rid of these two big burdens. When all walks of life want to cross-border car manufacturing and enter the automotive field, the qualification for vehicle production has always been a big problem, and Qoros and Kaiyi can provide a good solution to this.
