The physical dashboard is over. BMW shows off a new electronic dashboard

According to foreign media reports, it is not difficult to find the adjustments made by BMW on the dashboard from its recent new product launches. It has slowly begun to shift from traditional dials to electronic screens. At the company's 2018 Digital Day event, BMW took car fans to peek at the next iteration of the iDrive infotainment system.

This system, called BMW Operating System 7.0 (OS 7.0 for short), lacks creativity in its name, but it has to be admitted that it has put a lot of effort into visual aesthetics while also trying to prevent the driver from being distracted by the dashboard during driving.

BMW fans who follow the company should be familiar with this system. In fact, it first appeared on the X7 concept car. You can see that the traditional round instrument design of BMW has disappeared, replaced by two short and angular instrument outlines. In the middle, the driver can see the map or other relevant information, the left side provides speed-related information, and the right side displays fuel economy readings and tachometer information depending on the vehicle model.

The new design will reportedly integrate seamlessly with the standard infotainment screen. Like other modern BMW systems, OS 7.0 will not limit users to a single input method. Drivers will also be able to use BMW's iDrive dial, touchscreen, voice control, and gesture control.

BMW is showing signs of going all out to provide deep personalization services to its owners. Last July, the company announced the launch of Connected+, a car networking suite that will let the car learn its tastes based on information stored in a cloud folder, which can be sent to any connected BMW car, whether owned by the driver or not. Now, it looks like the dashboard can also be built based on the driver's needs.
