The promotion of electric vehicles is the general trend and the fuel vehicle industry will eventually be eliminated

July 2, 2016: Every time technological innovation threatens to disrupt the status quo, it is met with resistance from the status quo. Now the oil industry is working to discredit electric cars and offset advances in electrified transportation with irrelevant information from industry-funded research. To give you a better idea of this situation, you can recall that Bell Communications once published a report saying that mobile phones are not as convenient and practical as road lines, and Blockbusters once paid for an analysis saying that Netflix makes it more difficult to watch movies.

Data map

The vast majority of scientific research institutions and environmental public interest organizations support the accelerated promotion of electric vehicles because, from a scientific point of view, electric vehicles are clearly cleaner than traditional vehicles.

You can compare them in many ways. Electric cars don't have exhaust pipes. They run on electricity, and our electricity sources are becoming cleaner and cleaner. Even taking into account emissions from power generation and pollution from battery manufacturing, the emissions caused by electric cars are already significantly lower than those of traditional cars. The emissions from the power generation process are also related to the power generation methods in different regions.

As countries and cities continue to pursue more ambitious clean energy goals, more and more of our daily electricity will come from solar, wind, nuclear and other low-emission, emission-free or pollution-free energy sources. Battery recycling will become more and more common, and economies of scale will make this industry more and more profitable. This will not only reduce pollution, but also reduce asthma, cancer and other diseases caused by chemical energy pollution.

In contrast, gasoline and diesel will never get cleaner. Burning fossil fuels to power your engine pollutes. Fossil fuels pollute at every stage of their life, from drilling to transporting, from refining to burning.

Electric vehicles are also far more efficient in using energy than gasoline vehicles, almost 3 to 4 times more efficient than gasoline vehicles. In electric vehicles, more energy is converted into propulsion, and only a small amount is lost as heat. Electric vehicles are more environmentally friendly than gasoline vehicles, and a large number of studies have shown that electric vehicles will continue to be promoted in the future.

And electric cars save us all money. Charging and maintaining an electric car costs much less than a conventional gas car. We don't need to go to the gas station, and there are no engine issues because electric cars don't have engines. And it's worth noting that they accelerate and handle better due to their low center of gravity.

The exciting thing is that electrifying the transportation sector can keep electricity costs low for all electricity users. Multiple studies have shown that the shift from gasoline to electric engines will draw additional power from the grid, which can improve the efficiency of the electricity system and reduce electricity costs for all grid users.

In essence, electrifying transportation is a pretty good idea, and electric cars are a superior product. That’s why they will replace the internal combustion engine. One might expect that when an industry (like the oil industry right now) notices its own slippage, it would do everything it can to delay the inevitable, including funding research into the problem.

The ongoing transition to electrified transportation and clean energy promises a better future for all of us. Future generations may look back on the age of the internal combustion engine with as much confusion and wonder as we do on the horse-drawn carriage and overland communication lines. The benefits will be so clear that we should accelerate the transition as much as possible. We should also thoroughly denounce ideas that would slow or delay it.
