Waymo's self-driving highway testing mileage has exceeded 8 million miles, up from 4 million miles in November last year

Recently, Waymo's test vehicles have accumulated more than 8 million miles (12.87 million kilometers) in road tests (not on test fields).

Waymo's autonomous driving road tests since 2018 have made rapid progress.

Last November, Waymo's fleet had accumulated 4 million miles of road testing, which means that Waymo doubled its test mileage in 8 months. It took Waymo 8 years to reach the previous 4 million miles of test mileage.

In the future, Waymo may be even faster.

Currently, Waymo has deployed test fleets in 25 cities, with a total of more than 600 Chrysler Pacifica test vehicles. In addition, Waymo has purchased 62,000 new vehicles for autonomous driving operations.

Waymo is accelerating the process in order to launch a commercial autonomous driving taxi service as soon as possible, which is expected to be officially launched by the end of this year. Although Waymo has achieved autonomous driving without relying on a safety officer, it is still a long way from achieving truly mature autonomous driving. However, commercialization will bring Waymo more data and opportunities for improvement, and Waymo's advantages in the field of autonomous driving are expected to be further expanded.
