Geely to cooperate with Smart Eye to develop high-end automotive safety systems

According to foreign media reports, China's Geely Automobile Group will cooperate with Sweden's Smart Eye to use Smart Eye's artificial intelligence (AI)-driven driver monitoring (DMS) technology to jointly develop a series of high-end automotive safety systems.

Geely and Smart Eye will further develop technology to produce semi-autonomous vehicles in 2019, the two companies disclosed in a press release.

By studying the movements of the eyes, face and head, Smart Eye's technology helps understand the attention state of Geely drivers, whether they are paying attention and whether they are falling asleep on the road. The technology aims to understand and assist drivers in taking appropriate actions in risky traffic situations.

The vast majority of traffic accidents in the world are caused by drivers being distracted or impaired, such as using mobile devices, chatting with other passengers, or suddenly falling ill. Therefore, Smart Eye has developed driver monitoring technology to prevent traffic accidents and save lives. This driver monitoring technology will enhance the advanced driver assistance system functions of Geely Auto.
