BAK Battery will mass-produce super batteries next year, with the largest share of domestic cylindrical battery market

On September 16, BAK Battery and Cadenza Innovation, an American new energy innovation company that won the World Economic Forum (WEF) Technology Pioneer Award, held a strategic cooperation signing ceremony in Beijing. The two parties will cooperate to produce "super lithium batteries" and modules with higher safety, lower cost and higher energy density.

According to the agreement, the two parties will optimize Cadenza Innovation's new lithium battery packaging technology and carry out work on a global scale through project teams established in the United States and China. BAK Battery's production line for "super batteries" and modules has started construction in the BAK Industrial Park in Zhengzhou and is expected to be put into mass production next year.

As a representative of domestic cylindrical battery companies, BAK Battery has continuously made breakthroughs in the field of cylindrical battery energy density. The company's current mass-produced ternary material 18650-2.75Ah battery cell products have a specific energy of up to 232Wh/Kg, providing electric vehicles with a maximum range of 500 kilometers.

In May this year, BYD Battery officially released the 18650-3.0Ah high-energy-density battery cell product, purchasing a high-nickel positive electrode + silicon-carbon negative electrode material system. The single cell specific energy reaches 250wh/kg, which can achieve an ultra-long cruising range of 500 kilometers.

At present, 3.0Ah18650 battery cells have been put into mass production in the Zhengzhou BAK Industrial Park, with a production capacity of 6.5GWh and a daily output of 2 million units. They have been put into market application. In addition, a tens of millions of yuan 18650-3.0Ah battery cell procurement contract has been signed with Leapmotor, a new car-making force, to achieve batch supply.

In August 2018, the total installed capacity of power batteries in my country was about 4.17GWh, a year-on-year increase of 44%. The top ten power battery companies with the largest installed capacity accounted for about 90% of the total, and the concentration has further increased.

Among them, BYD Battery ranked seventh in the total installed capacity of domestic power batteries in August and January-August with an installed capacity of 110,186 kwh and 578,320 kwh respectively, mainly ternary batteries, becoming the battery company with the highest market share of domestic cylindrical batteries.

Since 2018, BAK Battery has supplied power batteries in batches to more than a dozen OEMs, including Jiangnan Automobile, Haima Automobile, JAC Motors, Nanjing Automobile, Yundu New Energy, Dongfeng Motor, Southeast Automobile, SAIC-GM-Wuling, and Chengdu Dayun. With the arrival of the peak season of the new energy vehicle market in the second half of the year and the launch of a number of new models with longer driving range, BAK Battery's power battery shipments and installed capacity will achieve further growth.
