Alibaba launches its first autonomous driving test platform, with an average daily test mileage of over 8 million kilometers

Recently, Alibaba's DAMO Academy launched the first "hybrid simulation test platform" for testing autonomous driving technology. According to Alibaba, the platform can simulate an autonomous driving scenario in just 30 seconds, and the platform can run up to 8 million kilometers per day.

Simply put, although the current mainstream autonomous driving test scenario is on the actual road, on the one hand, there are very few roads available for testing, and on the other hand, the availability of autonomous driving is not strong and dangers can easily occur. These two factors limit the actual road testing of autonomous driving.

Alibaba cleverly creates extreme road test scenarios in virtual scenes based on actual road conditions, combining autonomous driving technology that originally belongs to data with virtual scenes, thereby realizing long-distance autonomous driving tests that are difficult to simulate in real scenes.

According to Alibaba, the training efficiency of autonomous driving can be increased by millions of times through virtual scenarios, which will greatly accelerate the maturity and commercialization of L5 autonomous driving technology.
