Tesla's future is in China? 40% of Tesla's global sales in 2022 may come from China

Tesla built its first overseas factory in Shanghai in January this year and officially started supplying the Model 3 compact car. Because it is manufactured locally, the cost of the Model 3 is more than 30% lower than the imported version. Compared with the previous high-priced "Model X" and other models, the significantly cheaper new models, coupled with the recognition of Tesla's high-end brand image, have made the Model 3 a favorite among young car owners.

According to statistics from the research company WAYS, Tesla's sales in China in the first half of the year were 50,000 vehicles, which doubled from the same period last year, making it the sales leader in the domestic electric vehicle market. In July, it sold more than 11,000 electric vehicles.

Behind the rapid growth in the country is analysts’ optimism about Tesla’s stock price.

According to a report by Dan Ives, an analyst at Wedbush Securities, as Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory continues to increase its production capacity, the Chinese market is expected to account for 40% of Tesla's global sales by 2022. However, this figure is subject to a prerequisite, that is, Tesla can meet the growing domestic purchasing demand.

Optimism about the growth potential of the domestic market was an important factor in Dan Ives's raising of his expectations for Tesla's stock price, from his previous forecast of $2,500 to $3,500.
