Don’t blame the phone! It turns out the reason why PCs are not selling well is the same as TVs

When talking about sunset industries in the technology field, many people may think of PC first.

According to analyst firm Gartner, even though the overall PC market may grow slightly next year, traditional PC shipments will fall by nearly 8% this year and will continue to fall by 4.4% in 2018.

This means that by 2019, sales of traditional PCs and laptops will drop significantly by 16 million units.

Who is the reason why PCs cannot be sold? I believe many people will blame smartphones and other mobile smart devices. After all, when people are inseparable from their phones every day, and today mobile phones have fully met the social and entertainment needs of most ordinary users, the time left for PCs is naturally getting less and less.

However, Gartner believes that this view is not entirely accurate. The company's research found that users now rely on PCs or tablets to the same extent as smartphones, but the biggest difference between the two is that people change their phones more frequently.

If you think about it carefully, this view does make sense. Although we have long felt that current smartphones have encountered a development bottleneck, there will still be new concepts such as full screen and face recognition that stimulate you to change your phone every year.

In contrast, if you are not an enthusiast gamer who insists on using the latest CPU and graphics card every year, there is obviously no reason to update the PC frequently. In addition, with the performance improvement of new processors every year, the "toothpaste" is always squeezed out a little bit, and the definition of PC in the eyes of ordinary users is basically "nice to have".

This can't help but remind people of the television industry, which is also facing sales problems. I believe that in many domestic families, it is very common for a TV to be used for seven or eight years as long as there are no major problems.

On the other hand, when it comes to smartphones, are you really willing to stick with your iPhone 4S from years ago when the iPhone X is released?
