Tesla's autopilot is unreliable. An accident only takes 1/8 of a second and leaves no trace.

With the development of technology, the driving assistance system of automobiles has been continuously iterated and its safety has been gradually improved, but the reliability of the driving assistance system is far from perfect. Recently, some researchers said that by hacking into Internet billboards, they can induce Tesla's autopilot system to take actions such as emergency braking, parking or turning.

Israel's Ben-Gurion University has been experimenting with "ghost" images to confuse autonomous driving systems.

Simply put, some images can confuse autonomous driving and assisted driving systems by simply creating a momentary light projection to make the system notice non-existent objects, such as a stop sign.

The earliest demonstration of this research was to project road signs and human figures onto the road. It only takes a few milliseconds of images to mislead the advanced driver assistance system. It is reported that after hacking into certain digital billboards, hackers can cause cars to have accidents by making the billboards display specific content without leaving any obvious traces, at least not noticed by the driver.

The researchers said that they were targeting Tesla's Autopilot and MobileEye 630 systems, with the former responding to false impacts in 0.42 seconds and the latter only taking 1/8 second.
