BYD's blade battery receives order from Hyundai Motor and is expected to be supplied overseas next year

According to media reports citing insiders, BYD's blade batteries have been recognized by South Korea's Hyundai Motor Group, and a Hyundai project department has been established, which is expected to be exported next year. In response to this news, BYD's secretary said that the possibility of cooperating with Hyundai in the future is not ruled out.

In March last year, BYD Auto officially released its blade battery technology, and in July released the BYD Han EV model, which was the first to be equipped with blade batteries. Earlier, there were reports that BYD will start supplying blade batteries for the Hongqi E-QM5 in the second half of this year.

Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the declaration information of the "Announcement of Road Motor Vehicle Production Enterprises and Products" (340th batch), which shows that the Hongqi E-QM5 will use lithium iron phosphate batteries manufactured by Chongqing Fudi. The only blade battery production line at present is the Fudi Battery Factory located in Bishan District, Chongqing. Industrial and commercial information shows that BYD wholly owns the Chongqing Fudi Factory.

Blade batteries are lithium iron phosphate batteries, which are named because of their flat and long appearance. According to BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu, the lithium iron phosphate batteries made with BYD's blade battery processing technology can be on par with mainstream ternary lithium batteries in terms of battery energy density, and their thermal safety is far superior to ternary lithium batteries.
