Huawei reaches patent licensing agreement with Volkswagen suppliers, affecting more than 30 million vehicles

Huawei's development in the automotive industry can be described as "rapid progress". Since its entry into the industry, it has achieved outstanding results in the core areas of new energy vehicles such as electric motors, central control, and unmanned driving. With the development of Huawei, more and more car companies have begun to cooperate with it.

On July 7, Huawei announced that it had reached a patent licensing agreement with a supplier of the Volkswagen Group, which included a license for Huawei's 4G standard essential patents (SEPs) and could cover all Volkswagen vehicles that support wireless connectivity. A Huawei insider said that this was only a 4G patent license and there was no other in-depth cooperation, but this was already the largest licensing agreement Huawei had reached in the automotive field to date.

Song Liuping, Huawei's Chief Legal Officer, said: "As an innovative company, Huawei has a leading wireless technology patent portfolio and has created tremendous value for the automotive field. We are pleased to see that mainstream manufacturers in the automotive field recognize the value of our patents. We believe that through this license, consumers around the world will benefit from our advanced technology."

Huawei expects that under all the automotive patent licensing agreements signed so far, more than 30 million vehicles will be licensed for its patents.

On the same day, Huawei and SAIC Volkswagen jointly released the "full-stack integrated simulation platform" solution. Huawei can provide a full-stack integrated simulation platform for fluid mechanics simulation calculations, from L1 infrastructure (computing, storage, network) to L3 communication libraries, compilers, cluster management, professional services, etc. This will not only accelerate the research and development of autonomous driving, but can also be applied to manufacturing scenarios such as automobiles and aerospace.
