Japan increases subsidies for electric vehicles, but subsidies for fuel cell vehicles are still as high as 2.5 million

In the era of fuel vehicles, Toyota and Honda conquered the global market. But in the new energy era, Japan's fuel cell route is not recognized by the market, and in the rapidly developing electric vehicle field, Japanese automakers have no products to show for themselves.

Tesla has driven the development of the electric vehicle industry by itself, surpassing a number of century-old car manufacturers to become the world's most valuable car company. Traditional car companies around the world have learned from their mistakes and quickly followed suit. However, Japanese brands have reacted negatively. In terms of new energy, Japanese companies have already laid out fuel cells, and Toyota and Toyota are still immersed in the illusion of holding a large number of hybrid patents and collecting patent fees. Now they are facing a technological gap in the electric vehicle era.

Recently, Japanese media reported that in order to cater to the trend of electric vehicles replacing fuel vehicles, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan will increase subsidies for the purchase of electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid vehicles and dye battery vehicles, and will seek a budget of 33.5 billion yen for the plan in fiscal 2022, doubling the amount this year.

Although the implementation details are reportedly still to be finalized, reports indicate that the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is considering increasing subsidies for electric vehicles to make up for their high price disadvantage compared to fuel vehicles. The Japanese government currently provides purchase subsidies of up to 600,000 yen (about 35,000 yuan) per electric vehicle, 300,000 yen per plug-in hybrid and 2.5 million yen per fuel cell vehicle, respectively.

It is not difficult to see from the extremely high subsidy of 2.5 million yen (about 148,000 yuan) for each fuel cell vehicle by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan that Japan is still unwilling to give up the fuel cell route, which has already invested a large amount of research and development funds and has a huge technological advantage. However, it is precisely because Japan already has patent barriers in this field, and Japan has exhausted its monopoly on technology in the past, that new energy vehicle companies in China and the United States have chosen the lithium battery route, so that Japan now has to start catching up on the electric vehicle route again.
