4680 battery fully charged in 10 minutes, Tesla becomes the biggest winner? GAC, which has already started mass production, disagrees

On September 2, Israeli startup battery company StoreDot announced that it had produced the first 4680 cylindrical battery. This battery applies silicon-dominant technology to fast charging, making it possible to fully charge the battery in just 10 minutes.

StoreDot has been developing batteries since 2019, and its products have been used in electric vehicles, electric bicycles, drones and other products. Earlier this year, they also released a battery that can be fully charged in 5 minutes.

The 4680 released this time is a brand-new battery technology announced by Tesla in September 2020.

The so-called 4680 refers to the fact that the diameter of the battery cell is 46 mm and the height is 80 mm. Similar to BYD's blade battery, the 4680 battery improves energy density by optimizing the battery structure and increasing the cell volume.

The energy density of the 4680 battery is 300kWh/kg, which is a 5-fold increase. At the same time, the cruising range is increased by 16%, the output power is increased by 6 times, and the cost is reduced by 14%.

According to analysis, if the Tesla Model 3 long-range version can use 4680 batteries, the range is expected to increase to 800 or even more than 1,000 kilometers.

Today, domestic electric vehicle manufacturers have launched a strong challenge to Tesla.

Since the beginning of this year, Tesla has won the monthly sales championship in the domestic market only in May. The sales of brands such as SAIC-GM-Wuling and BYD have already surpassed Tesla.

In July this year, Tesla's sales in China did not even exceed 10,000 vehicles. Overseas, models such as Volkswagen ID.3 and Renault Zoe have also challenged Tesla's position.

In terms of technological innovation, domestic manufacturers have never stopped.

In July this year, GAC Group announced that it will mass-produce fast charging technology, among which 3C high-rate fast charging can achieve a charging time of 16 minutes from 0% to 80% and a charging time of 10 minutes from 30% to 80%; 6C high-rate fast charging is even faster, achieving a charging time of 8 minutes from 0% to 80% and a charging time of 5 minutes from 30% to 80%.

In addition, GAC's 1,000-kilometer range model will also be put into mass production by the end of this year.
