From January to June 2022, CATL's installed capacity reached 70.9GWh, a year-on-year increase of 115.6%, and it is still the largest manufacturer

Recently, according to foreign media reports, as the demand for electric vehicles continues to rise, manufacturers such as CATL, BYD, and Panasonic, which started to get involved in batteries earlier, have continued to increase their shipments and maintained a strong development momentum.

Institutional data show that CATL, which had the highest installed capacity of electric vehicle batteries in the first half of last year, remained the largest manufacturer in the first half of this year, with an installed capacity of 70.9GWh, a year-on-year increase of 115.6%. Its market share increased from 28.6% in the same period last year to 34.8%, more than one-third.

LG Energy Solution, the second largest manufacturer last year, is still the second largest manufacturer this year, but its installed capacity of 29.2 GWh only increased by 6.9%. While the installed capacity of many manufacturers has increased significantly, their share has shrunk significantly, from 23.8% in the same period last year to 14.4%.

BYD, which launched the blade battery and widely used it in its models, had an installed capacity of 24GWh in the first half of the year, an increase of 206.2% from 7.9GWh in the same period last year. Its share also increased from 6.8% to 11.8%, replacing Panasonic as the third largest manufacturer.

Panasonic, which has long supplied batteries to Tesla, had an installed capacity of 19.5GWh in the first half of this year, up from 17.3GWh in the same period last year. Like LG Energy Solution, the increase was not obvious, and its share also fell sharply from 15% in the same period last year to 9.6%.

The fifth largest company in terms of installed capacity is SK On, which was spun off from SK Innovation last year. Its installed capacity in the first half of this year was 13.2GWh, doubling from 6.2GWh in the same period last year. Its share increased from 5.3% to 6.5%.
