Recently, GAC Toyota announced its sales data for September, with a total of 83,084 vehicles sold in that month, of which 28,221 were electrified models (referring to smart hybrid dual-engine, smart plug-in dual-engine, and pure electric models), accounting for 34%; 74,761 were intelligent models (referring to models equipped with TSS intelligent safety system), accounting for as high as 90%.

GAC Toyota's sales performance is outstanding among joint venture brands. In contrast, the performance of other joint venture brands is not satisfactory.

According to the China Passenger Car Association, the retail sales of narrow passenger cars in September reached 1.98 million units, up 3% year-on-year and 3.1% month-on-month. Among them, the total retail sales of joint venture brands reached 1.128 million units, down 10.4% year-on-year and 7.1% month-on-month.

It has to be admitted that with the accelerated pace of automobile electrification transformation and the rise of Chinese automobiles, joint venture brands are facing increasingly difficult times.

For example, Changan Ford sold 32,000 new cars in September, and its cumulative sales so far this year have reached 191,000 units, a year-on-year decrease of 8.62%.

Mitsubishi Motors, a Japanese brand that also cooperates with GAC, recently announced that it will officially cease production in China, officially withdrawing from China.
