On September 6, Intel released its new Core product series, mainly for ultra-thin, fanless mobile devices. It is reported that the positioning of the Core M processor is different from the previous four generations of Core processors. The former will be used in ultra-thin notebooks , high-end tablets and 2-in-1 devices. However, Intel officials hope to promote the concept of its 2-in-1 devices. Intel senior vice president and general manager of the PC client division, David Skauer, said that the Core M processor is the first new product series designed specifically for 2-in-1 devices. The processor will power the latest 2-in-1 products from multiple OEMs including Acer, Asus, Dell , HP , Lenovo and Toshiba. The first batch of ultra-thin, fanless 2-in-1 devices will be available in the fourth quarter of 2014. The Core M processor will address the combination of mobility and performance, as well as improving battery life. Compared to the fourth-generation Intel Core processor (Y series), the Core M processor has a 50% smaller package volume and a 60% reduction in thermal design power consumption, while at the same time increasing computing performance and graphics performance by up to 50% and 40% respectively. In addition, the Core M processor is not only targeted at the consumer market, but will also be used in enterprise commercial equipment, and reference designs are already available to manufacturers.
