X platform: Model Y production at Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory will be twice that of Model 3 in 2023

According to foreign media reports, data released by Troy Teslike, a blogger on the X platform who tracks Tesla's development, shows that Tesla's Shanghai Super Factory's Model Y production has exceeded Model 3. Last year, the factory produced 1.77 times as many Model Ys as Model 3, and this year's Model Y production is expected to be 2.07 times that of Model 3.

Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory is the company's first manufacturing plant built in China, the first electric vehicle factory wholly owned by a foreign automaker in China, and the company's third Gigafactory built globally. Currently, the factory produces Tesla's two best-selling models, the Model 3 and the Model Y.

Since breaking ground in 2019, Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory has rapidly grown into one of the company's most important factories. Today, the plant is Tesla's largest and most profitable plant for vehicle production, and a major export hub for the company.

In September this year, Tesla announced that it had produced its 2 millionth electric car at its Shanghai Super Factory. The company revealed that it took only 33 months for the factory to produce its 1 millionth electric car, and only 13 months to achieve the goal of producing its 2 millionth car, which shows the company's amazing speed in increasing production capacity.

Earlier this month, foreign media reported that Tesla's Shanghai Super Factory only takes 37 seconds to produce an electric car, while the company's Texas Super Factory takes 76 seconds to produce a complete vehicle, more than twice that of the Shanghai Super Factory.

Although Tesla's Shanghai Super Factory has faced multiple challenges over the years, the production of Model Y is very fast. Previously, car blogger @童济仁 said that the factory produced 206,000 Model Ys in 2021, 464,000 in 2022, and a total of 1 million Model Ys as of July 12, 2023.

According to foreign media reports, Tesla's Shanghai Super Factory is rapidly producing Model Y faster than Model 3, which indicates that the market demand for Model Y is greater than Model 3.
