Apple Pay reveals new issue: Cannot add bank cards after system restore

On January 2, although restoring the factory settings can help iPhone users solve many problems, it can sometimes cause a lot of trouble. Many iPhone 6 and 6 Plus users said through the official support forum that they were unable to add their bank cards back to Apple Pay after restoring the two phones to factory settings.

A complaint thread on Apple's support forum about this has accumulated several pages of replies. Since Apple has not yet come up with a solution, it seems that the only option is to replace the phone with a new one.

Even temporary solutions aren't available right now, and restoring a backup or doing a clean install doesn't help. However, a new phone appears to fix the problem, and at least one user has reported getting an official replacement phone after trying to fix the problem at an Apple Store Genius Bar.

This appears to be due to some issues with NFC and the factory reset function, which prevented the security data from being completely cleared.

Apple Pay is still being rolled out, with Chevron set to start accepting it at gas stations this year. The mobile payment solution has also attracted interest from a number of retailers, with mobile payment company Square promising to offer the service to customers in 2015.

If you are an Apple Pay user, please do not try to restore to factory settings until Apple comes up with a solution.
