AMD Fury X computing performance test: violent GTX 980 Ti

Based on different test items, AMD Fury X and NVIDIA 980 Ti can be said to have their own wins and losses and are evenly matched. They are basically at the same level, which is naturally embarrassing for the former, which is a latecomer and needs water cooling.

However, in addition to gaming performance, AMD still has a great advantage in parallel computing. The Polish website benchmark.pl simply examined the performance of several high-end new cards in this regard.

The test platform is based on Core i7-4790K, and the drivers are Catalyst 15.7 official version and GeForce 353.30 official version.

The first project is Luxmark 3.0, an OpenCL testing tool based on the LuxRender open source engine, and the hotel scene is running here.

The Fury X performs very well, outperforming the 980 Ti by 66%. The R9 290X even leads it by 36%, but benchmark.pl believes that the Fury X should be ahead by even more.

The second project is BitMiner, a mining software that is also based on OpenCL computing.

The Maxwell architecture has improved this aspect, especially the second generation, where the 980 Ti and 980 both surpassed the R9 390X/290X, but in the end the Fury X was better, leading the 980 Ti by 9%.

AMD GCN architecture is indeed unique in OpenCL computing. It is more suitable for students who have such needs. Ordinary gamers don’t need to pay too much attention to it. Even for mining, it is already outdated.
