The problems appear in two aspects, one is attenuation and capacity, and the other is safety. Now, Japanese researchers have made great breakthroughs in new battery technology. In the future, smart phones and laptops will use cheap and safe battery products. According to Kyodo News, the Saitama Prefecture Industrial Technology Center recently announced that it has made breakthroughs in the production technology of higher-quality magnesium batteries, and practical research is about to begin. According to the center, compared with the current mainstream lithium-ion batteries, this battery is not only safer and has a larger capacity, but also has a relatively low production cost. Because lithium is at risk of catching fire, and because it is a rare metal with a high price, it is also difficult to ensure the raw materials. The research team of the center added water and other substances to the positive electrode material of the battery, and used the new electrolyte with organic matter to make a trial product for performance analysis. It was found that this battery not only has a reduced risk of catching fire, but also can maintain 80% of the discharge capacity after 50 repeated charge and discharge, with less attenuation . Saitama Prefecture has been commissioned by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) to carry out this research at the center since 2008. The research results are expected to be made public at the Electrochemical Society's sub-discipline meeting scheduled to open at the end of November.
