After four years of waiting, Apple finally fixed the issue of Siri searching for "abortion"
Shortly after the release of the iPhone 4S in 2011, the Siri artificial intelligence voice assistant, which was still in its infancy at the time, had a search glitch. When users searched for places that could provide abortion services, Siri would not provide the correct results. Until recently, this defect has just been improved. According to the foreign website Fast Company, they tried to search for abortion clinics in San Francisco through Siri and Apple Maps a few months ago. At that time, Siri still could not provide the correct results, but displayed some reverse replies from fertility clinics or adoption agencies. However, when testing again recently, it was found that Apple finally improved this defect. Specifically, when asking Siri or searching for nearby abortion clinics in Apple Maps, the search results for "Planned Parenthood" will be displayed first, and the fertility clinics that were previously at the top are now ranked at the end of the search results. Planned Parenthood is a non-profit family planning organization that provides women with physical examinations, contraception, abortion and other services. It is still unknown why Apple suddenly chose to fix this Siri search failure in the near future, perhaps under pressure from the outside world and the media. Last November, a non-profit organization called "Sea Change Program" and the University of California, San Francisco, put pressure on Apple on this matter and sent a letter to the company's CEO Cook. In addition, the Fast Company website and foreign media TechCrunch published articles a few days ago complaining that Apple had dragged its feet for four years and refused to solve Siri's "abortion" search failure. In the United States, which attaches great importance to human rights in all aspects, the consequences of this incident can be serious or minor. As early as 2011, after Siri had this failure, the human rights organization American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) accused Apple Siri of failing to provide appropriate responses, believing that this was an act of depriving women of their right to abortion freely. Cook also publicly apologized for this and said that it would be fixed in "a few weeks."
