Why can iPhone 5 still compete? Why are Snapdragon 800/801 phones unable to get Android 7.0?

Android phones are updated so quickly that every time a new system is released, many old users ask whether their phones can be upgraded. For those who own Snapdragon 800/801 terminals, the tragedy is that there is no official Android 7.0.

We have previously reported that Snapdragon 800/801 terminals cannot get the official Android 7.0 upgrade. The main reason is that Qualcomm will not release a new version of the display driver for Snapdragon 800\801. Is this really the case?

Regarding the above time, Sony used the Z3 as an example to explain why it could not get the official Android 7.0 update. Of course, the situation is basically the same for other brands of terminals. Sony emphasized that those who want to get the official Android 7.0 update must pass the so-called "Compatibility Test Suite" compatibility test of Google.

After the arrival of Android 7.0, Google has upgraded the above compatibility test accordingly, which means that the terminal must support Vulkan or OpenGL ES 3.1. This is the most basic condition for obtaining official updates. If it is not met, there is no hope.

Tragically, Snapdragon 800/801 devices all use Adreno 3XX series GPUs, which only support the OpenGL ES 3.0 standard at most. This also means that it cannot pass the compatibility test and therefore cannot receive the official 7.0 update.

However, Sony stressed that they were speechless because Google implemented the test changes when they were in the middle of developing the Z3 7.0 update, which forced them to abandon the plan halfway, and other manufacturers should do the same.

Although Snapdragon 800\801 cannot get the official 7.0 update, many folk experts will bring corresponding versions according to different models. Compared with iOS, the open source nature is indeed too far behind in system updates and upgrades, and Google is also unable to do so.
