Expert from the Ministry of Public Security: Fingerprint leakage in short videos is more severe than the "V gesture"

Yesterday, Japanese media published a report saying that the most commonly used photo-taking pose, the scissors hand gesture, may become the key to leaking privacy in the information age.

Hackers can extract the photographer's fingerprint information from the photo and then copy and use it, posing a huge threat to the person's property and privacy information.

In this regard, the Beijing News interviewed a number of domestic fingerprint experts, all of whom said that the method of stealing fingerprints disclosed by the Japanese media is technically feasible, but not as serious as imagined.

Dr. Yin Desen from the ID Technology Division of the First Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security said that fingerprints are external features that are easily left behind and are easy to obtain. If the lines can be seen, the image can be processed through technical means to extract the fingerprint information.

Yin Desen said that it may be difficult to obtain fingerprints through a single photo, but relevant information can be recorded more completely through video.

Yin Desen said that currently, there are very few cases of crimes using fingerprints in China, and fingerprint information is generally used to solve cases. When people leave fingerprint information, to judge the risk, we must first see what information the fingerprint is associated with. Although its function is similar to the traditional password, we should not pursue the security of fingerprint information and fingerprint verification too much, and we should pay attention to preventing risks when binding it with other information.
