360 responds to being disqualified from review by AV-C: I quit!

Just yesterday, AV-Comparatives, AV-TEST and Virus Bulletin jointly condemned 360, saying that the engine settings of the 360 ​​antivirus evaluation version were different from the domestic ordinary user version, and announced that they would revoke all certifications and ratings obtained by 360 products this year.

“Independent antivirus testing is important in improving the level of protection for users’ devices, and in making the Internet safer for everyone,” said Andreas Clementi, CEO of AV-Comparatives. “If test scores are used purely for marketing purposes, it will ultimately make it easier for malware to spread and for users to be less safe.”

In response to the statements of AV-Comparatives and other organizations, 360 also responded tonight, saying that 360 officially withdrew from AV-C. 360 also made a special statement:

1. The disagreement in this incident is a dispute over the evaluation standards of traditional antivirus and cloud security. AV-C and other organizations were established in the 1990s, and their evaluation standards are also based on traditional antivirus technology. In the eyes of AV-C, antivirus software should be "signature engine + virus database", and the same results should be obtained in any corner of the world. They do not agree that cloud security software should be configured with engines and cloud detection and protection strategies that are more suitable for local user needs according to different countries and regions;

2. 360 Free Security's internationalization affects the interests of the traditional antivirus industry. 360 Antivirus claims that it has subverted the traditional antivirus market in China with its free cloud security model. In order to expand the international market, 360 Antivirus participated in foreign evaluations such as AV-C and has won the world's best ratings many times. The engine settings of the test version have always been publicly reflected in the evaluation report without any cheating.

3. AV-C's traditional evaluation standards are far from the real needs of users. Take the real case of a famous domestic artist who had 1 million yuan stolen from his online bank as an example. The criminals tricked his agent into uninstalling 360 Antivirus, and then asked the victim to download and use Teamviewer (a world-renowned remote control software) from a phishing website, so as to control his computer and steal a huge amount of online bank funds.

According to the AV-C evaluation standard, Teamviewer is a legal software and should not be "checked and killed". However, 360 Antivirus integrates multiple engines, among which the QVM artificial intelligence engine has a much better protection against unknown threats than traditional antivirus engines. 360 Cloud Security will comprehensively judge and check and kill Teamviewer that is maliciously used based on information such as file download paths and software behavior. This is real security protection that cannot be reflected in traditional evaluations.

4. 360 decided to withdraw from the evaluation due to the inability to reach an agreement with AV-C on the evaluation criteria. In fact, Symantec and Comodo have already withdrawn from AV-C, and the emerging US endpoint security company Bit9 did not participate in such evaluations at all.

360 Antivirus believes that AV-C's sudden change of attitude is mainly due to the acceleration of 360 Free Security's internationalization process and the disclosure of the news that the number of overseas users has exceeded 100 million, which has put the traditional foreign antivirus industry under great challenge.
