Kantar Worldpanel ComTech released its quarterly smartphone sales report for the period ending May 2015. According to the report, Android still leads the smartphone market, followed by Apple's iOS and Microsoft's Windows Phone in third place. Samsung's performance in the Android market has improved, with the launch of the Galaxy S6, allowing the Korean manufacturer to regain some lost market share in the US smartphone market. However, Windows Phone's performance in the US market is not very impressive compared to the same quarter last year. By the end of May 2015, Windows Phone's market share in the US was 3.5%, only 0.6% higher than the same period last year. Even in other major markets such as China, Japan and Australia, Windows Phone was unable to make a significant impact on market share. The only region where Windows Phone performed well was Europe, including the UK, Italy, Germany, Spain and France, where the Windows Phone operating system market share rose to 9.5%, up 1.5% from the same period last year. |
