Apple CEO Tim Cook sent an email to all Apple employees today to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the death of co-founder Steve Jobs.

On October 5, 2011, Jobs passed away at the age of 56. Many people thought Jobs was a visionary, many people admired him, but some people also mocked and ridiculed him. In any case, Jobs attracted too much attention.

Four years later, Jobs' successor Cook wrote a letter to all Apple employees to commemorate this Silicon Valley legend.

The following is the original text of Cook's open letter:

Four years ago today, Steve Jobs passed away. On that day, the world lost a visionary strategist. Apple lost a great leader and mentor, and many of us lost a dear friend.

Jobs was a man of many talents, and his priorities were simple. He loved his family, he loved Apple, and he loved the people he worked with so closely. Every year since his passing, I remind everyone in the Apple community that we share the same purpose and responsibility to continue the work that Jobs loved.

What legacy did Jobs leave us? I can see it all around me:

a team that reflects his innovation and creativity;

The world's greatest product, loved by millions of users around the world;

Great achievements in technology and architecture; experiences of surprise and joy;

a business that only he could have built;

A company with a strong determination to make the world a better place.

Of course, there is also the joy he brings to those who like him.

In the year before he died, he told me several times that he wished he had lived long enough to see his childhood dreams come true. That summer, I was in his office with Laurene and his youngest daughter. The children’s letters and drawings still remain on Jobs’s whiteboard.

If you didn't know Steve Jobs, you may have worked with someone who did. Today, I'd like to share more about him by asking those who worked with him. Several of our colleagues have already expressed their remembrance of Steve Jobs on the website, and I hope you will take a look.

Thank you for honoring Steve Jobs by continuing his work, and I hope you will remember who he was and everything he stood for.
