Samsung is serious! Announced the establishment of a VR content studio in the United States

According to the latest news from foreign media, Samsung, the manufacturer behind the Gear VR virtual reality device, recently opened a new film and television studio in New York. The main task of this studio is to produce more content elements for the Gear VR virtual reality helmet.

Samsung announced the news at the Sundance film festival in Park City, Utah, where virtual reality has become a key element.

However, the Korean multinational company did not reveal more details about the film and television studio. Samsung America's Chief Marketing Officer Marc Mathieu only said that "the studio will be operated in Samsung's existing office building, and a dedicated Samsung marketing team has already moved into the office building." This means that once the studio starts creating new virtual reality experiences for users, the marketing team can quickly tell the world about it.

At the same time, Samsung also announced a one-year cooperation agreement with the Sundance Institute, which is a large-scale film event hosted by the Sundance Institute. Outside analysts believe that the main purpose of Samsung's cooperation with the Sundance Institute is to cultivate potential producers and creative talents.

"We at Samsung love stories, and we are willing to help people tell stories better," Mathieu said in an interview with the media.

It is reported that Samsung's booth at the film exhibition attracted many visitors, and people were even willing to queue up to try the virtual reality experience brought by Samsung Gear VR. At the same time, the famous American humor website Funny Or Die also launched two new films "Childrens Hospital" and "The League" starring famous actors Rob Huebel and Paul Scheer on Friday local time. The two protagonists are also very optimistic about the future of virtual reality technology in the film industry and described this technology as "the best way to entertain people's brains."

What is certain is that if people can really embrace virtual reality technology in the future, they first need this platform to have enough content for them to enjoy. Last year, Facebook's virtual reality manufacturer Oculus VR announced at the Sundance Film Festival that it would create more high-quality content for this technology. The company even recruited well-known actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt to help it expand the influence of the concept of virtual reality. In addition, Oculus VR also announced the establishment of a story studio and will release three virtual reality short films this year, namely "The Matador", "Henry" and "Dear Angelica".

In fact, as the world's leading independent film festival, virtual reality elements first appeared on the stage of the Sundance Film Festival as early as 2012. At that time, Nonny de la Pe a, known as the "godmother of virtual reality" at the Annenberg School of Communication at the University of Southern California, showed people her film "Hunger in Los Angeles". Although VR films briefly disappeared from the Sundance Film Festival in 2013, the number of VR films at the Sundance Film Festival has doubled in the next three years: 4 in 2014, 9 in 2015, and then 33 this year.
