1. Overall situation of domestic mobile phone market

In August 2021, the domestic mobile phone shipments were 24.306 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 9.7%. Among them, 5G mobile phones were 17.688 million units, a year-on-year increase of 9.4%, accounting for 72.8% of mobile phone shipments in the same period.

From January to August 2021, the total shipments of mobile phones in the domestic market reached 227 million units, a year-on-year increase of 12.3%. Among them, the shipments of 5G mobile phones reached 168 million units, a year-on-year increase of 79.7%, accounting for 74.1% of the mobile phone shipments in the same period.

In August 2021, 57 new mobile phone models were launched in China, a year-on-year increase of 50.0%. Among them, 27 were 5G mobile phones, a year-on-year increase of 80.0%, accounting for 47.4% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.

From January to August 2021, a total of 296 new mobile phone models were launched, a year-on-year increase of 0.7%. Among them, 148 5G mobile phones were launched, a year-on-year increase of 5.0%, accounting for 50.0% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.

2. Composition of domestic and foreign brands in the domestic mobile phone market

In August 2021, the shipment volume of domestic brand mobile phones was 22.806 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 6.7%, accounting for 93.8% of the mobile phone shipments in the same period; 48 new models were launched, a year-on-year increase of 37.1%, accounting for 84.2% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.

From January to August 2021, the cumulative shipments of domestic brand mobile phones reached 204 million units, a year-on-year increase of 10.6%, accounting for 89.9% of the mobile phone shipments in the same period; the cumulative number of new models launched was 266, a year-on-year decrease of 1.1%, accounting for 89.9% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.

III. Development of domestic smartphones

In August 2021, smartphone shipments reached 23.08 million units, down 9.9% year-on-year, accounting for 95.0% of mobile phone shipments in the same period. From January to August 2021, smartphone shipments reached 222 million units, up 13.3% year-on-year, accounting for 97.7% of mobile phone shipments in the same period.

In August 2021, 51 new smartphone models were launched, a year-on-year increase of 82.1%, accounting for 89.5% of the number of new smartphone models launched in the same period. From January to August 2021, a total of 247 new smartphone models were launched, a year-on-year increase of 9.3%, accounting for 83.4% of the number of new models launched in the same period.
