Why can’t I check the battery health on my Android phone?

In fact, Android phones used to have similar functions. For example, Xiaomi could enter a mysterious code on the dial-up interface to enter the test mode, which displayed information such as the actual battery capacity.

However, Xiaomi has cancelled this feature, and other Android phones are similar. It is impossible to directly view the battery health and loss in the system. It can only be estimated through some third-party software by monitoring the voltage and current during charging.

So why does Apple have this feature, but Android basically doesn't? It shouldn't be technically difficult, right?

In fact, the original sin lies in fast charging. Apple is notorious for its slow charging. The ancestral 5V1A slow charging has been used for many years. In recent years, it has finally adopted fast charging, but it is only 20w (iPhone13 Pro Max is 27w). On the other hand, many domestic Android flagship phones have reached 120w. The speed is really fast, and it can be fully charged in more than ten or twenty minutes, but the battery consumption rate is also very fast.

Apple's fast charging is not a technical problem, but a choice and strategy. On the one hand, it is for profit, and on the other hand, it is indeed to protect the battery. The rapid loss of the battery will lead to serious after-sales problems. Because Apple sells globally and has a huge shipment volume, once there is a problem with the battery, the loss is huge. After all, there is Samsung's previous experience.

So back to the question of why Android phones cannot check battery health, the answer is obvious. The domestic mobile phone market is really too involuted and the competition is too fierce. Each company can only continue to pile up hardware and configuration, and the fast charging power is getting higher and higher. The parameters are good-looking and indeed convenient, but the problem is that the battery wears out faster. If users can see the battery health drop sharply intuitively, it is obviously inappropriate. So, if you do something wrong, just delete this function.
