Apple today pushed the new watchOS 8.3 for its smartwatches and iOS 15.2 for mobile phones. For Chinese users, the arrival of the new version means that the long-awaited ECG electrocardiogram function is finally online.

Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a technology that uses an electrocardiogram machine to record the changes in electrical activity generated by each cardiac cycle from the body surface. Specifically for Apple products, the mobile ECG atrial fibrillation reminder software and the mobile pulse atrial fibrillation reminder software have finally been approved by relevant domestic departments and appeared on Apple watches and mobile phones.

The addition of these two software, combined with Apple Watch hardware (requires Apple Watch 4th generation and later), can help users identify signs of atrial fibrillation. Mobile ECG Atrial Fibrillation Alert software allows customers to create a single-channel ECG on the watch similar to the Lead I ECG.

Although the description looks complicated, it is simple to use. Launch the software on Apple Watch and press the digital crown with your finger. After 30 seconds, the heart rhythm will be classified as atrial fibrillation (AFib), sinus rhythm, low or high heart rate or uncertain.

When an irregular heart rhythm is detected, the Mobile Pulse Atrial Fibrillation Alert software will issue an alert of the possible presence of atrial fibrillation in a timely manner when there is sufficient data for analysis.

In fact, Apple launched the ECG electrocardiogram detection function on the Apple Watch Series 4 as early as 2018, which allows users to understand their heart condition anytime and anywhere and avoid some unexpected situations.

However, since this function belongs to the attributes of a medical device and Apple has previously failed to successfully pass the medical device certification of the State Food and Drug Administration, this function cannot be used in China. Apple has also completely blocked it in the watch, making it impossible for domestic users to use it.
