WeChat’s new rules are here! Mini-programs will need authorization to access personal sensitive information

With the rapid development of technology, a variety of apps or mini-programs have added a lot of convenience to our lives. However, some apps and mini-programs will obtain mobile phone permissions when in use, such as camera, address book, gallery, etc., which increases the risk of privacy leakage.

Today, the official WeChat team stated that in order to further standardize developers' calls to user information-related interfaces or functions and improve user experience, the platform will adjust some user information-related functions and interfaces.

Officials said that starting from February 21, 2022, mini programs must be authorized by users to access Bluetooth, address books, and add calendar events.

Previously, after users granted WeChat permissions, the mini program could directly call on permissions and access mobile phone contacts, etc.

It is reported that developers can add the logic of using wx.getSetting to obtain the user's current authorization status in advance before the platform is adjusted. If the authorization status is false, wx.openSetting can be called to open the settings interface to guide the user to enable authorization.

It is worth mentioning that at the beginning of this year, Zhang Xiaolong, the "Father of WeChat", said that WeChat will soon have its own input method, but the purpose is not to seize this market, but to protect user privacy, and it will soon be grayscale tested.

Zhang Xiaolong said that WeChat did not originally want to develop an input method, but received many complaints from users, saying that their chat records were stolen by the input method because they would see corresponding advertisements for whatever they typed.

WeChat does not save chat records, and also stipulates that anyone who reads the user's chat records will be expelled. Therefore, in order to protect user privacy, WeChat has to develop its own input method, which will be grayscale tested soon.
