iOS 16.4 quasi-official version released, new features and changes

iOS 16.4 quasi-official version released, new features and changes

Early this morning, Apple pushed the iOS 16.4 RC version update, one week after the last beta version update. The version number of this update is 20E246.

Generally speaking, the RC version is a quasi-official version, which is the last test version before the official version is released. If nothing unexpected happens, iOS 16.4 RC will be the same as the official version of iOS 16.4.

If you have already installed the iOS 16 beta version description file, you can directly upgrade to the latest beta version in the software update. If you plan to upgrade to the latest version, it is recommended to delete the iOS 16 beta version description file and wait for the official version to be pushed. Other friends are recommended to wait for the official version to be released before upgrading.

This iOS 16.4 RC version also brings some new functional changes. Let’s take a look at them below.

Voice highlighting supports cellular calls

Apple launched the voice highlighting feature in iOS 15. When the user is on a call, this feature can automatically block the surrounding noise to make the call clearer. However, this feature only supports FaceTime calls, and domestic users rarely use FaceTime.

Now, after upgrading your iPhone to iOS 16.4 RC, this feature can finally be enabled during cellular calls. While on a call, bring up the control center, click on “Microphone Mode” in the upper right corner, and switch to “Voice Highlight” mode.

Using this feature can improve the quality of your calls.

iCloud Library Duplicate Detection

In iOS 16, Apple launched a duplicate detection feature for photo albums, which can help users filter duplicate photos in albums.

In iOS 16.4 RC, Apple has adjusted this feature and now extends it to iCloud shared albums. After turning on iCloud shared albums, you can find this feature in "More Items" at the bottom of the album page.

In addition to the above two new features, developers also found traces of Apple chips in the internal code of iOS 16.4 RC version.

According to reports, three product codes A3048, A2968, and A2871 were found in the iOS 16.4 RC code. Two of the product codes may be new AirPods and charging boxes. It is likely to be a new iteration of Beats Studio Buds, which is expected to be named Beats Studio Buds+.

In addition, Apple also pushed iOS 15.7.4 RC version 19E321 for older models. It is mainly used to fix bugs and optimize the system. It is only released for iPhone 7/7 Plus and older models. Newer models cannot receive push notifications.

It is expected that the official version of iOS 16.4 will be pushed next week. Friends who plan to update to the official version should not upgrade this RC version.
