The main major change brought by iOS 17.5 is that users in the EU can download apps directly from the website. Yes, just like Android, you can download and install apps freely.

Apple said that apps downloaded in this way can be backed up, restored, updated, and the experience is basically the same as downloading from the App Store.

However, this feature is only available in the EU and only for iPhone devices, not iPads. And there is currently no way to bypass this restriction. Users do not need to pay Apple a commission when downloading apps through the website, but they must pay a core technology fee of 0.5 euros.

Rainbow Wallpaper

In this update, Apple also added rainbow wallpapers, with a total of five different styles. Different colored lights spell out the word Pride, and the wallpaper changes every time the device is unlocked or the screen is turned on. Interested friends can go and have a look.

Added maintenance status

In iOS 17.5, Apple added a repair status feature that is designed to allow the iPhone to be repaired without turning off the search and activation locks.

After turning on the maintenance mode, the device being searched will display the Ready for Repair label to prevent the device from being stolen.

Before this, if your device needed repair, you needed to turn off the search feature. After turning off this feature, the activation lock would be useless. If your device was stolen during repair, you would not be able to retrieve it through the search feature.
