When reporting on the on-site investigation of the inspection team, Bruce Aylward, the foreign head of the inspection team and senior adviser to the Director-General of the World Health Organization, pointed out that the strategy adopted by China has changed the rapidly rising curve of newly confirmed cases. "When I first arrived in China two weeks ago, there were about 2,000 new confirmed cases reported every day. When the joint mission ended its mission, the number of confirmed cases reported yesterday was 416, a 80% drop in two weeks. Such a data drop is real." Liang Wannian, Chinese head of the China-World Health Organization team, said that the current situation in Wuhan remains severe. Although the rapid increase in cases in the early stage of the outbreak has improved, new patients are still emerging and the overall epidemic has not yet been contained. The foreign team leader, Elward, said that according to the laws of epidemiology, the rate of decline in the number of newly confirmed cases in Wuhan may become faster and faster. If the number of newly confirmed cases per day can be controlled in double digits within a few weeks, it means that the situation has been completely under control.

Liang Wannian pointed out that Wuhan is still one of the central areas of the epidemic in China, and the current situation remains severe and complicated. To some extent, now is the most critical stage for whether the epidemic prevention and control can be successful.

Judging from the data, the number of new cases per day is decreasing, the number of reported cases per day is decreasing, the proportion of severe and critical patients among confirmed patients is decreasing, and the mortality rate of confirmed patients is decreasing. These are all good news. However, we still have to realize that there are still about 400 confirmed cases every day and four to five hundred suspected cases, which means that there may be a number of new cases appearing every day, which means that the epidemic in this area has not been completely contained by us. But we have a basic judgment that Wuhan was in the early stage of an epidemic outbreak, and the rapid increase in cases has been effectively curbed.
