There are about 70 million hepatitis B virus carriers in China (with original text) 30 million fewer people have been infected with hepatitis B in the past year

Currently, there are about 70 million people infected with hepatitis B virus in my country, and nearly 90% of them have not received treatment. One of the main problems is the lack of knowledge about hepatitis B. Many hepatitis B patients do not know that they are sick, and they do not feel the need for treatment even if they have no symptoms. In fact, experts say that scientific research has proven that 80% of liver cancer in my country is related to hepatitis B!

Yang Xizhong, executive vice president of the China Hepatitis Prevention and Control Foundation, said that due to the continuous expansion of the hepatitis B vaccine immunization program, at least 30 million people have been reduced from hepatitis B infections over the past year. It can be said that the goal set by the World Health Organization has been achieved ahead of schedule. However, our country has a large base and many people were infected in the past. Now there are still 70 million virus carriers, and about 20 to 30 million people need treatment. Among these, we are currently able to diagnose only 18%, and among the 20 million, only 11% can receive standardized treatment. In addition, mother-to-child transmission of hepatitis B still occurs, so the main task of our hepatitis B prevention and control department is now to treat and reduce the existing stock.

About Hepatitis B

Public information shows that chronic hepatitis B (abbreviated as chronic HBV) refers to patients who test positive for chronic HBV virus, have a disease course of more than half a year or have an unclear onset date but have clinical manifestations of chronic hepatitis. The clinical manifestations include fatigue, anorexia, nausea, abdominal distension, pain in the liver area, etc. The liver is enlarged, of medium hardness, and slightly tender. Severe cases may be accompanied by chronic liver disease features, spider angiomas, liver palms, splenomegaly, and abnormal or persistent abnormal liver function. According to clinical manifestations, it is divided into mild, moderate and severe. Chronic hepatitis B virus carriers are those who test positive for hepatitis B virus, have no symptoms of chronic hepatitis, have no abnormal serum ALT and AST levels in more than three consecutive follow-ups within one year, and have normal liver histological examinations.

On October 27, 2017, the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer published a preliminary list of carcinogens for reference, and hepatitis B virus (chronic infection) was included in the list of Class 1 carcinogens.
